Motorola Moto G72

Motorola Moto G72: The budget smartphone category has never been so competitive, and Motorola has been quietly positioning itself at the head of the pack, with clean software, great hardware, and excellent performance, all at a price that’s hard to beat.

Can the Moto G72 strike that delicate balance between affordable and everyday performance?

And it doesn’t have 5G like other rivals may, but it more than makes up for that in the things that matter most to many users: display quality, battery life and a clean Android experience.

We try to figure out in this deep dive what this sub-₹20,000 phone gives you — and where it disappoints.

Design & Build: Sleek, Lightweight, and Useful

First impressions count, and the Moto G72 doesn’t disappoint. It’s impressively svelte at just 166 grams and 7.9 mm thick, which makes it very comfortable to hold.

It has a matte back panel that doesn’t attract fingerprints, and feels smooth and classy.

But glass or metal this is not — still, for a budget phone, it feels more than premium enough.

It’s also had a little thought put into it, by being IP52-rated for general water resistance—something you don’t often see at this price.

Display: AMOLED Brilliance and 120Hz Smoothness

Here’s where the Moto G72 really starts to flex its muscles. It gets a 6.6-inch pOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ capability.

In short, it’s gorgeous — especially at this price. Colors look punchy, blacks are deep and outdoor visibility isn even too bad.

Content simply looks good on this screen and the 120Hz refresh rate ensures that scrolling through apps and web pages feels buttery smooth.

As a display, it’s one of the best devices in its class for both streaming and casual gaming.

Performance: Sufficient, But Not the Fastest 5G That’s good enough for people who are living and working in your hometown neighborhood.

Coming to the internals, the Moto G72 runs on the MediaTek Helio G99 SoC backed by 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.

And it’s got no problem running the everyday stuff—browsing, messaging, streaming, mailing, instaing, tweeting. Even the occasional game does okay, though it’s not intended for hardcore mobile gaming sprees.

The biggest trade-off? No 5G support. In an era when 5G networks are being deployed all over India, this could be a dealbreaker for some.

But if you’re someone who doesn’t yet need 5G and wants better features elsewhere, the G72 is still worth consideration.

Motorola LG Review: One of Moto’s bright spots has long been its mostly-stock Android experience, a tradition the G72 continues.

It comes with Android 12 preloaded and very little bloatware, with a commitment to at least one major Android update.

There are a few useful Moto gestures/customizations (like twist-to-open-camera or chop-to-turn-on-flashlight) that help to make life easy without what actually feels like cluttering or slowing down the system.

The right: Good daylight camera, Not terrible otherwise

The Moto G72 gets a 108MP primary sensor accompanied with an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP macro camera.

Under good lighting, the main camera takes clear, colorful images with a nice dynamic range. The ultra-wide lens is alright, but there’s a drop in detail in low light.

The 16MP selfie camera does an excellent job with selfies and video calls as well. Night imagery is definitely a weak point, but night mode will help save a few shots.

Battery Life and Charging: A Solid Performer

The G72 fares pretty well on that count too, as its 5000mAh battery can easily hold a charge for a day even with moderate use and in some cases, more.

It embraces 33W fast charging, which is not the fastest around but is enough to power your phone from 0 to 100% in around 75 minutes. Good thing that the charger comes in the box.

Motorola Moto G72: Final Verdict

The Moto G72 doesn’t exactly set out to shop-sober it and use the money saved to make an awesome gift for your sister/daughter.

If you’re on the hunt for an affordable, no-nonsense smartphone that you don’t mind pocketing every day, the G72 efficiently takes care of business. It may not scream, but man, can it deliver.
