Samsung Galaxy M53

Samsung Galaxy M53: In an overcrowded smartphone market, awash with devices of all shapes and styles, Samsung has found a reassuring groove in its M-series, packaging together performance, impressive display quality and reliable battery life at a price that makes sense.

Following in the footsteps of its bestselling predecessors, the new Samsung Galaxy M53 looks set to continue that winning formula, only this time boasting a few more clever tricks.

However, given the number of options in the sub-₹30,000 price range, does the M53 stand a chance? Let’s take a deeper look.

Design and construction: easy, smooth and practical

Samsung hasn’t taken a flashy route with the M53’s design, and that’s definitely not a bad thing in this case.

The phone takes minimalism to a new level with a matte plastic back that is absolutely unobtrusive, not shouting for attention, yet feeling reassuringly solid in the hand. It’s thin and lighter than I expected for a gadget with a 5000mAh battery.

On the back, the camera module has been neatly arranged in a square design, and on the front is a centrally-aligned punch-hole cutout for the selfie shooter.

The plastic build certainly doesn’t scream premium, but the premium finish feels far nicer than what I’d expect on a phone at this price point.

Display: Samsung’s Signature Super AMOLED Pleasure The same screen from before (is that a bad thing?)

One of the most striking attributes of the Galaxy M53 is its 6.7-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED Plus display. Samsung rarely puts a foot wrong when it comes to screens, and this is another solid effort.

The colours are rich, black is deep and everything from gaming to video streaming looks vivid and sharp.

You also get a 120Hz refresh rate, which means scrolling feels extra smooth — whether you’re scrolling through your social-media feed or jumping from app to app. The screen is a real treat for content lovers.

Performance: Good Enough for the Job

It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 900 chipset, which is coupled with 6GB or 8GB of RAM. It is a competent mid-tier CPU that powers through most things you will throw at it — multitasking, casual gaming, video calls & light content creation.

Apps open rapidly, and there’s support for virtual RAM, which aids a little when trying to manage heavier work loads.

Heavy-duty gamers will, however, see some frame drops in graphics-intensive games like BGMI or Call of Duty Mobile.

Now, this isn’t a dealbreaker, but it isn’t crushing flagship-level performance, either.

The phone is also running One UI 4.1 on top of Android 12 and Samsung says you’ll get good software support — another tick in its box.

Camera: 108MP Main Star With Improvements to Make

Here the highlight is the 108MP primary sensor, and, yes, it does produce a lot of detail during daylight.

Pictures are sharp and rich in color, though Samsung’s tendency to overly process images persists. The ultra-wide and macro lenses are passable but not standout.

Low-light photography is adequate, but, again, very software-dependent. The 32MP front shooter is perfect for selfies and provides a good amount of detail and natural skin tones—especially in the right lighting.

Battery and Charging: Dependable, Though Not the Quickest

The M53 is powered by a 5000mAh battery, and it easily lasts a full day — even with the high refresh rate display. If we used it sparingly, we got it to last until the next morning.

But the 25W fast charging support is definitely a little old hat, whereas some rivals are boasting 67W or even 120W.

And even worse, Samsung doesn’t even ship the phone with a charger, which may be a bit of a letdown for some who buy in this class.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

Vibrant AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate

Solid 108MP main camera

Decent performance for everyday use

Clean and lightweight design

Long battery life

Cons:

No charger in the box

Decent ultra-wide and macro cameras

Slower to charge than some competitors

Cheap feel plastic back

Samsung Galaxy M53: Final Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy M53 doesn’t attempt to be the most glamorous phone in its category – but what it does deliver is a balanced and reliable smartphone.

It comes with a beautiful display, a main camera that takes good shots and long battery life, so it ticks most of the right boxes for a mid-range buyer.

Yes, it lacks the fast charging and premium materials of more expensive phones, but if you want a no-nonsense phone and Samsung’s reassuring ecosystem with long-term software updates, the M53 makes a compelling argument for itself. Smoothly capable, quietly competent—it’s the M53 in short.
